a gratuitous, uninformed assessment of the character of JDV, and related commentary
JDV, whom we do not know and don't really want to know even if we could know him
Let us begin by saying that, when it comes to sports teams and candidates for elective office, I have always supported losers. I’ve been following my teams and voting for people for more than fifty (50) years, and to put it mildly, in both regards I suck, deeply.
Decisions to follow and support my teams are rooted in geography, even the questionable decisions. For example, although I was born and raised in Northern California, I have always had a fine romance with the New York Yankees, because of the many Yankee greats, particularly those of Eyetalian extraction, who were born and raised in Northern California, such as Tony Lazzeri, Mark Koenig, Joe Di Maggio, Lefty Gomez, Frank Crosetti, Billy Martin, Gene Woodling (he played for the San Francisco Seals and he counts), Gil McDougald, Jerry Coleman, Bobby Brown, Jackie Jensen, Art Shallock, Joe De Maestri, Dave Righetti, and if I have left anybody out, shame the hell on me.
The Bay Area has been a baseball hotbed for a long damn time, and we have sent many other guys to the majors, such as Dominic and Vince Di Maggio, Joe’s brothers, Dino Restelli, Ernie Lombardi, Dolph Camilli, Marino Peretti, Dario Lodigiani, Keith Hernandez, Frank Robinson, Joe Morgan, Vada Pinson, Dave Stewart, Joe Ferguson, Bill Buckner, Mike Norris, Ricky Henderson (played for the A’s and Yankees), Carney Lansford, Tommy Harper, Gregg Jefferies, Brandon Crawford, Troy Tulowitski, Joc Pederson, CC Sabathia, Tyson Ross, Jimmy Rollins, Bob Melvin, and lots of other dudes.
But I digress.
In politics I vote for people who lose and I ignore the people who win. I do not make decisions based on party affiliation because these days party affiliation is bullshit. I do not make decisions on any kind of expressed political philosophy because expressed political philosophy is also bullshit. Don’t ask me why. If you don’t get it there is no hope for you and you should not continue reading.
I vote for people who I might like personally and who appear to be trustworthy, intelligent, do not take hard positions based on bullshit dogma or misguided ideology, and who, if they are playing on your team in a pick-up touch football game, are good blockers and reliable receivers on a Texas pattern over the middle when you need a first down to keep a drive alive.
This does not rule out female candidates, because my best daughter played in the annual Turkey Bowl game her father’s friend, Coach Carroll, created with his brother in 1966, since she was a tiny thing, playing football in the mud with grown men and getting knocked on her ass on every play, and then getting back up to get ready for the next play.
She is now 36 years old, and she will still block and she will catch a pass in traffic. She is a special education teacher and one of the toughest little fuckers I know. Her young son has no idea how lucky he is to have her as his mother. He will grow up fast and take shit from no one.
Which brings us to JDV, who I would not vote for under any circumstances, based on my impressions of him. My first impressions of him is that he, kind of like Dan Quayle, would be fine with sending other men into combat as long as he can stay home and watch the war on TV.
JDV is a prisoner of his weird belief system, first of all. You may recall that when George W. Bush was president twenty (20) or so years ago, some controversial new research was emerging that involved stem cell use to treat various ailments. Stem cell at the was a hot button on the religious right, and Bush came out against it, saying “he didn’t believe in that.”
To which many people responded, “Hey, we don’t give a fuck what you believe in, this is an example of scientific advancement that can reduce suffering and save lives.” Bush was at that point a prisoner of his belief system, to the detriment of society. JDV has that going for him, in my opinion. He has said some very weird things about women and their civil rights. He’s a freak. His personal philosophy is bullshit.
Other impressions? I bet he is cheap. I bet that he hardly ever picks up a check, and I bet he is a lousy tipper. My dad was the cheapest son of a bitch who ever lived when it came to tipping, especially in dining establishments. That he made his living as a restaurant accountant is just a touch ironic, because he knew exactly how badly food service workers are paid, how few benefits they receive, and how almost none of them made a decent living wage when he was alive, nor do many now. JDV is in my dad’s community, I am guessing. I hope I am wrong about him, on this and all other of my opinions. He is a young man and he has time to learn and figure shit out better than he has so far. Whether he will is another question.
But the most telling thing about JDV is that he would play second fiddle to his degenerate imbecile running mate. Who would do that? Who do you know in your life who would join forces with that man, on purpose? I don’t know a single person who, even were they to vote for the degenerate, would actually go to work for him. No one I know is that stupid. Please note, I do not care for their opponent, either. I will vote for her holding my nose from the incredible stench of the 2024 presidential campaign.
No one I know.
